in 1957. Rock Garden is Built of industrial waste and thrown-away items. Rock Garden, Chandigarh was Nek Chand's
privale project till the government authoritis of Chandigarh came to know about the extraordinary in 1975.
The most powerful aspect of the Rock Garden is that - thousands of animal or humanoid figures standing
silently in rigid rows are made out of discarded materials as a symbol of dimonstration to the fast developing
nation that waste can be fruitfully recycled and used in creative pursuit.
The layout of the Garden is based on the fantasy of a lost kingdom. One has to pass through a variety of doorways,
archways, vestibules, streets and lanes of different scales and dimensions, each one opening into a new array of
displays or courtyards and chambers lending an air of suspense and curiosity at every corner, at every turn!
